Licensing

IMPORTANT: The information on this page only applies to the Website Download Edition of iStudio Publisher. The App Store Edition of iStudio Publisher incorporates Apple's digital rights management system, which is managed via your Apple ID account. A License Activation Code is not required for the App Store Edition of iStudio Publisher, and it has no Licensing sub-menu under the Help menu.

You can "try before you buy" a fully functional copy of iStudio Publisher for a 30-day trial period.

To license the application, you will need to enter a License Activation Code, which you can buy from our website store. A separate license is required for each computer iStudio Publisher will be used on. We will email you one License Activation Code for each license you buy.

You can transfer your iStudio Publisher license a different computer in two steps - Step 1: Unlicense your old computer; and Step 2: License your new computer. However, please see below the section "License transfer restrictions".

IMPORTANT: If you migrate your user account to a new computer, iStudio Publisher will stop working and you will need to transfer your iStudio Publisher license to your new computer. Each license will only work on the particular computer for which it was created.

The Relicense option gives you a simple way to reinstall an existing license (on the same computer), if it becomes lost or damaged for any reason, e.g. after a hard drive crash. You can relicense without having to refer back to your original purchase receipt email to find your License Activation Code.

In summary, your License Activation Code works as a token. When you license the application, you give us the token in exchange for a license. When you unlicense, you relinquish the license and get back your token. When you relicense, we already have your token and simply reinstall your existing license.

To start a 30-day trial:

When you download, install and run iStudio Publisher for the first time, it will start up in unlicensed mode. In unlicensed mode the application will do everything except save, print and export files.

When iStudio Publisher starts up in unlicensed mode it automatically displays the Licensing dialog. You can choose to either start a 30-day trial, or license the application immediately.

Choose the option to start a 30-day trial and select Continue.

Accept the Software License Agreement and select Continue.

Enter the registration information and select Continue. The application will contact the iStudioPublisher.com licensing activation server to receive and install a trial License.

NOTE 1: All communication with the iStudioPublisher.com licensing activation server occurs only when you request a licensing operation and does not occur at any other time. Your privacy is maintained at all times.

NOTE 2: If your 30-day trial expires and you don't choose to buy a license, iStudio Publisher will run in unlicensed mode. You will still be able to receive application updates and view existing documents, but will no longer be able to save, print, or export.

To license iStudio Publisher:

Start by selecting the radio button labelled "I have purchased iStudio Publisher" on the Licensing dialog (or Trial dialog, or Trial Expired dialog) that is displayed during application start up, or by choosing Help > Licensing > License.

Enter a License Activation Code where indicated and select Continue. Each License Activation Code is 20 characters long. (TIP: It is easiest to copy and paste a License Activation Code directly from your purchase receipt email.)

Accept the Software License Agreement and select Continue.

Enter the registration information and select Continue. The application will contact the iStudioPublisher.com licensing activation server to receive and install a license.

To unlicense your current computer:

Choose Help > Licensing > Unlicense.

The application will uninstall your license and notify the iStudioPublisher.com licensing activation server, which will reset your License Activation Code. For your convenience, the License Activation Code will be displayed, for you to note down and reuse.

You can now use the License Activation Code to license a different computer (subject to the license transfer restrictions, see below).

NOTE: Unlicensing only applies to full licenses. Trial licenses cannot be transferred to a different computer.

To relicense (on the same computer) if your license becomes lost or damaged:

Choose Help > Licensing > Licensing Special > Relicense.

The application will contact the iStudioPublisher.com licensing activation server to retrieve any existing license associated with your computer and reinstall it.

License transfer restrictions:

To help prevent abuse of our software licensing system, we restrict the transfer of any particular license between different computers.

After installing your license on any computer for the first time (let's refer to this as "Computer 1"), you can transfer your license to a second computer ("Computer 2") at any time.

You will be able to use menu options Unlicense and License to move the license to and fro between Computers 1 and 2 without restriction. (NOTE: Although you could purchase one license and regularly transfer it between two different computers, the unlicense facility has been designed with long-term transfers in mind. To remove the inconvenience of frequent license swapping, we sell a Personal 2-Pack License, which is only a little more expensive than a Single Computer License.)

To transfer the license to a third computer ("Computer 3"), you must wait for 30 days to elapse since the last time you made a license request on either Computer 1 or 2. Until 30 days have elapsed, any license request you make on Computer 3 will be refused by the iStudioPublisher.com licensing activation server and an error will be returned.

After waiting 30 days and moving the license to Computer 3, you can then move it back and forth between Computer 3 and whichever computer it was last on (let's say that this was Computer 2.)

To subsequently transfer the license back to Computer 1 or on to a fourth new computer ("Computer 4"), you must wait another 30 days. And so on.

If you need to transfer your license to a third computer within 30 days, please contact Support and we will be pleased to reset your license to allow this.
