Shape Inspector

Use the Shape Inspector to adjust a shape's opacity, text runaround, size, position, and angle.

The Opacity setting is applied to the line stroke, color fill, shadow and image, but not to the text or text shadow. It combines with the individual opacity settings of these separate parts, which can be applied using the other Inspectors.

Adding a text runaround to a shape will cause the text in any underlying shapes to flow (wrap) around it, so that none of the text is hidden. NOTE: Runarounds have no effect on text in overlying shapes. Whenever you add a new shape, text box or image, it will be added in front of any existing shapes on the page. You can adjust the front to back 'z' order of shapes from the Arrange menu or via the corresponding toolbar icons that are labelled Order.

To add a text runaround:

the Shape Inspector, Runaround tab selected

Start by selecting the shape(s) to work with. You can select and work with multiple shapes at the same time.

Select the Runaround tab.

Select the Run Text Around Shape checkbox to add a default text runaround.

If the Run Text Around Shape checkbox shows a dash Checkbox dash icon, this indicates that the current selection contains at least one shape with an existing text runaround and at least one shape with no runaround. To continue editing all of the selected shapes together, click the Run Text Around Shape checkbox to change the dash to a tick. This adds a default runaround to any shape that previously had none.

Runaround extents are displayed as a red dotted line, which can be turned off from the View menu.

Text runaround options:

runarounds example

Select Tight Shape to set a text runaround that follows a shape's outline, or select Bounding Box for a runaround that remains outside a surrounding rectangle.

The Outset Distance sets the distance of the runaround from the shape.

The image to the right shows an example in which the upper triangle has a Tight Shape runaround and the lower triangle has a Bounding Box runaround. Both runarounds have a 2mm Outset Distance.

To remove an existing text runaround from a shape, simply deselect the Run Text Around Shape checkbox.

To change size and location settings:

the Shape Inspector, Size & Location tab selected

Start by selecting the shape(s) to work with. You can select and work with multiple shapes at the same time.

Select the Size & Location tab to reach the controls for these adjustments:

(x,y) position on a page/spread

width

height

rotation angle

TIP: To align or match the size of several shapes, adjust their size/location settings at the same time.
