Two Great Reviews of iStudio Publisher

Date December 2, 2015 | author Posted by Chris

iStudio Publisher received a couple of very complimentary reviews recently and we'd like to share them with you.

The first review is from the guys at MACHOW2. It's an article reviewing several apps and solutions that provide similar functionality to Microsoft Publisher, but on the Mac. iStudio Publisher fares very well, and here's a quote from the review:

“iStudio Publisher is an extremely user friendly and powerful alternative to Publisher on Mac. It produces very professional results and yet is very easy to get started with thanks to the well thought out video tutorials and Quick Start Guide.”

Check out the full article here: Microsoft Publisher for Mac: Best Alternatives Publisher. It's worth checking out their website for other excellent reviews too. Thanks guys!

The second review is a YouTube video made by one of our users, Richie Vitale. Richie is a very prominent jazz trumpeter based in the US, and also a computer enthusiast. We're really pleased that he's taken the time to show off some of iStudio Publisher's features in his video. You can watch it here: iStudio Publisher Review by Richie Vitale. Thanks Richie, great job.

Update iStudio Publisher for OS X El Capitan

Date September 29, 2015 | author Posted by Andy

Update iStudio Publisher to 1.2.1 for OS X El Capitan

To run iStudio Publisher on OS X 10.11 El Capitan, you must install the latest iStudio Publisher 1.2.1, which is available as a free update. Everyone should update, irrespective of the version of OS X you are running.

iStudio Publisher is available as an App Store Edition (available from the Mac App Store) and a Website Download Edition (includes all licensing options we sell from our website store). You will need to update whichever edition you're using.

You can update the App Store Edition via the App Store, or update the Website Download Edition by checking for updates via the Help menu. Users occasionally report having installation problems, which is discussed here.

Fresh installs are available from here:

iStudio Publisher 1.2.1 released

Date September 10, 2015 | author Posted by Andy

We’re pleased to announce the release of the Website Download Edition of iStudio Publisher 1.2.1, which is available as a free update to all existing users. To update simply launch your existing copy of iStudio Publisher and accept the update option, which should appear automatically, or else check for updates via the Help menu.

iStudio Publisher 1.2.1 is a maintenance release, which includes critical fixes for running on Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan, along with some other minor fixes and improvements.

For users of the App Store Edition, we have submitted this to Apple. Once Apple have completed their review process you will be able to get it for free via the App Store update mechanism. Note that your App Store purchase won't enable you to license the Website Download Edition, so please wait for the App Store Edition to become available.

iStudio Publisher 1.1.10 released

Date September 10, 2015 | author Posted by Andy

Yesterday, we released the Website Download Edition of iStudio Publisher 1.1.10, intended for users with older computers running Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger or 10.5 Leopard, who can't update to the latest iStudio Publisher 1.2.1 (which requires OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard or later). Existing users of iStudio Publisher on OS X 10.4 or 10.5 can get the iStudio Publisher 1.1.10 update by launching iStudio Publisher and accepting the update option, which should appear automatically.

iStudio Publisher 1.1.10 is a maintenance release comprised of housekeeping items and stability improvements. It includes many of the same bug fixes added to iStudio Publisher 1.2 and 1.2.1.

We are very happy to continue supporting iStudio Publisher users on older Macs. Although these users can no longer install the latest versions of iStudio Publisher, we will continue to support legacy versions of iStudio Publisher, and provide email support.

iStudio Publisher will no longer open

Date July 28, 2015 | author Posted by Andy

We have recently discovered that some maintenance apps (such as MacKeeper) may damage iStudio Publisher’s application bundle when used to ‘clean’ a Mac. This occurs if the cleaning process removes the 32-bit binary from the bundle, with the result that iStudio Publisher will no longer launch.

To fix the problem configure your maintenance app to exclude iStudio Publisher from its cleaning process (or stop using the maintenance app), and install a new copy of the iStudio Publisher application software.

More information here.

Note that from iStudio Publisher 1.3 onwards we'll be removing support for 32-bit binaries, so this will no longer be an issue.

iStudio Publisher 1.2 released

Date April 3, 2015 | author Posted by Andy

We’re excited to announce the release of the Website Download Edition of iStudio Publisher 1.2. Existing users can get this by simply launching iStudio Publisher and accepting the update option, which should appear automatically.

For users of the App Store Edition, please wait until Apple have completed their review process and you will receive the new version through the App Store update mechanism. Note that your App Store purchase won't enable you to license the Website Download Edition, so you will need to wait.

iStudio Publisher 1.2 is a bumper update with lots of great new features, including: setting the default text for the app, bleed and crop marks, booklet creation, dictation, Quick Look document preview, full screen view, and a flatter UI design to integrate with Yosemite and take full advantage of retina displays. Here are some more details of what's new in this release.

We've already started work on the next release and have lots of other new features and improvements planned for future updates.

We hope you enjoy iStudio Publisher 1.2!

How to spread edit a booklet cover

Date October 29, 2014 | author Posted by Andy

We recently received an interesting support question asking how to spread a single photo across the front and back cover of a booklet. Even in a document that's been set up for two page spread editing you can't edit the front and back pages side by side, but here are two alternative ways of adding a photo so that it spans the front and back cover of a booklet.

Option one is to design the front and back cover together on a double sized single page in a separate document, export this to PDF file and then combine it with the rest of the booklet PDF.

Option two is to add two copies of the same photo, one to the first page and one to the back page. TIP: Follow these steps to exactly align the photo across the two pages:

  1. Insert the photo on the front cover page.
  2. Size and position this image so that it includes all of the photo area to be shown on the back cover page as well (so it extends out over the canvas area to the left of the page).
  3. Copy the shape containing the photo.
  4. Click anywhere on the back cover page and choose menu option Edit > Paste in Place, to paste a new copy to the same relative page position.
  5. Go to the Shape Inspector, click the Size & Location tab, and increase the x position by exactly one page width. That's it - all done.

With either method if the photo extends to any of the page edges you may want to add bleed margins and crop marks. This can be done manually in the present version of iStudio Publisher, and the next update (due for release in the next few weeks) will include an option to add bleed margins and crop marks automatically.
